Who at Tesco

What are the chances of walking into Tesco and finding a Scarecrow, Ood, Cyberman, Silurian and a Clockwork Robot?

Most days it’s probably quite unlikely. On this occasion though, a promotion for the Doctor Who LIVE event provided a chance to stand in a queue and have pictures taken with these very beasties. Alas, poor organisation meant I only got pictures with three of the five – I only came out for milk, at the Stockport Tesco Extra, and didn’t expect to stand for a whole hour waiting for a photo opportunity.

Who knows what might happen next time I take a trip out for fish fingers and some toilet roll?!

The Eighth Creeking

The Easter Sunday special of ‘Jonathan Creek‘ – The Judas Tree – features the Doctor Who duo of Sheridan Smith and Paul McGann, previously only heard on BBC Radio 7 or via download as Lucie and the Eighth Doctor. Worth a look, I’m sure. Seems like perfect timing given the return of Who this weekend.

Under the Doctor

Just watched Sylvester McCoy making a brief guest appearance on ‘Al Murray’s Multiply Personality Disorder’. Not the highlight of his comedy career exactly, playing doctor (ha!) to Murray’s gay Nazi. Still, nice to see him on telly again.

New Gallifrey

Coventry outlines credentials to become the new Gallifrey. Central shopping centre to be demolished and replaced with the new Panoptican. Local branch of PC World claims to have started work on reconstructing The Matrix by daisy chaining three Acer netbooks, a blender, and a 44″ plasma TV. Dave Ross, of nearby Kenilworth, quoted as being less than impressed with the plans and certain to lodge a complaint with the county council.

Howzat?!

When, as a Doctor Who fan, you read articles like this, you can only sit and weep a silent tear of joy, knowing that you have got a step closer to some unrecorded list of ‘Perfect Moments to See Before You Next Regenerate’. Worth it for the desktop wallpaper alone!

Null and Void

Watched Small Worlds again yesterday and noticed a new connection between Torchwood and Doctor Who continuity.

At the beginning of the episode, we get a shot of Jack standing in the foreground of his office, with his desk sitting behind him. He’s talking to Ianto, I think. Anyway, on Jack’s right (the viewing left) sits a table lamp – and hung over the rim of the lamp’s shade… a pair of 3D glasses, presumably the ones the Doctor used to view the void stuff while at Torchwood One (in Army of Ghosts and Doomsday). Doubt Ianto had the time or inclination to pick them up while rescuing his girlfriend, so seems more likely they were salvaged from Torchwood after the Doctor sealed the rift into the Void.

Neat.

The Stranger on a Train

Colin Baker, the Sixth Doctor and one time Stranger, is currently on tour, along with Anita Harris, in a production of Strangers on a Train, adapted from the Patricia Highsmith novel. The play concerns the chance meeting of a pro tennis player and a high society playboy on a train that leads to murder.

Just seems odd that The Stranger should get involved with other strangers in such perilous circumstances.

60 for 3

I just saw India Fisher (Charley, companion to the Eighth Doctor) in a Vodaphone advert. It’s one of the current series that shows a mobile user getting a conversation seconds long instead of the significant higher amount of time they’d get with Vodaphone… The odd thing about it… well, India had brown hair, rather than her previous blonde. As it happens, it seems this might be her current (or natural) colour – as seen on the Big Finish site.
